Hello Resident,
We hope you are well. Here is an update regarding crime and Police activity in Burbage this week since our last update on the 11th of January.
Reported Crime and Appeals
Report of a residential burglary on Beaufort Close on the 10th of January between 18:20 – 18:50. The back door glass had been smashed as a point of entry, whilst residents were out. It appears jewellery was targeted. Whilst we have completed a lot of work in the area, if you have any CCTV around the Herald way area, or saw anything suspicious, please get in touch. We’ve been dealing with incidents of fence panels being damaged and back gates being kicked open around the Hinckley Road and The Meadows area. Those involved have now been identified, and further action is being taken.
Tonight, the team responded to a reported break‑in at The Woolcomber. Whilst the pub has been empty for a long time, it appears entry had been made. If you have any information, please contact 101 quoting reference 26000028698
We received a report from Amber Way (near Indigo Drive) that at around 17:20 on the 15th, a suspicious vehicle attended an address and a male appeared to be “checking out a vehicle” and ran off when challenged. We completed patrols in the area but please stay alert. If you suspect there is a crime in progress, please call 999 immediately. If you have any CCTV that shows the registration of the vehicle, please pop me an email.
Dog Ownership Awareness
We’d like to remind dog owners of their responsibilities after a recent incident where a dog attacked a sheep, sadly resulting in the sheep being euthanised due to its injuries. We’re also aware of issues locally around dog‑on‑dog attacks and dog fouling. Animal crime | Leicestershire Police What is wildlife crime? | Leicestershire Police
Patrols, Police Activity and local engagement
This week, PC Davidson and PCSO Stretton have been out and about carrying out high‑visibility patrols across the area following recent reports of residential burglaries.
PC Davidson has made referrals to the Youth Offending Service for drug‑related and bladed‑article offences. PCSO Stretton has been handing out bicycle lights to schoolchildren and offering safety advice (importance of wearing a bicycle helmet). This week we also carried out reassurance patrols during school pick‑up times at Hastings High School, keeping an eye on parking concerns and helping to keep everyone safe. We will be looking to complete patrols around the primary schools next week.
Crime prevention and issues to be aware of
Facebook marketplace scams (raised by resident)
“Just putting this out there for others to be aware of buyers responding to adverts placed on Facebook marketplace. Just today a couple arranged a collection for an item I placed on marketplace. They came to collect the item and wanted to pay by bank transfer. I have tried contacting them, but the message has been ignored, when previously they had responded swiftly. People advertising on Facebook marketplace need to be aware that not all enquiries are genuine, and do what I should have done and checked their profile, insisted on cash, or wait for the transaction to go through and stop being so trusting.”
I have had multiple residents over the years raise issues regarding this type of scam, from fake notes, buyers driving down the price when attending to collect the items and fake banking apps. Please be careful, regardless of where you are buying or selling from as unfortunately there are some very nasty and dishonest people out there.
Thank you and take care.
